SiliconPV 2025 Illuminates Oxford with Breakthroughs in Solar Technology

The 15th SiliconPV Conference, held from April 8–11, 2025, at Oxford University's Mathematical Institute, convened over 300 global experts to explore the future of crystalline silicon photovoltaics. Co-chaired by Professors Sebastian Bonilla and Matthew Wright, the event emphasized innovation in solar cell efficiency, sustainable manufacturing, and terawatt-scale deployment.(semilab.com, siliconpv.com)

A highlight was the focus on silicon-based tandem solar cells, particularly perovskite-on-silicon configurations, aiming to surpass 35% efficiency. Sessions addressed advancements in passivating contacts, such as TOPCon and heterojunction technologies, and novel metallization techniques to reduce reliance on scarce materials like silver and indium.(siliconpv.com, siliconpv.com)

The conference also tackled sustainability challenges, discussing low-carbon silicon production, module recycling, and digitalization in PV manufacturing. The accompanying nPV Workshop delved into n-type silicon technologies, enhancing the week's comprehensive coverage.(siliconpv.com)

Beyond technical sessions, attendees engaged in social events, including a conference dinner at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and guided city tours, fostering collaboration and cultural exchange.(siliconpv.com)

Looking ahead, SiliconPV 2026 is scheduled for April 13–17 in Ankara, Türkiye, continuing its mission to drive innovation in solar energy. (siliconpv.com)
