Guðrún Lilja obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Iceland, specialising in Materials and Nanotechnology. Her final thesis investigated magnetron-sputtered Mn-Ge binary alloy thin films to demonstrate how distinct in-plane structural symmetries govern electrical and magnetic properties, providing experimental support for the theoretical predictions of topological transport in non-collinear antiferromagnets. She continued working on research projects at the University of Iceland, extending her methods to Tb-Co multilayers and MAX phase compounds, focusing on perpendicular magnetic anisotropy an the interplay between strucuture an properties in nanoscale films.
Most recently, her work has focused on identifying the most efficient amorphous spin-polarizing nanolayer material for a spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance device. For her Master by Research, she will investigate ion-conducting nanolayer materials suitable for analog deep learning devices in neuromorphic computing.
